SCHOOL DESCRIPTION

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine is situated on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. Blacksburg is located in southwest Virginia between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains and is a distinct community with a population of about 40,000. Its residents enjoy a wide range of educational, social, recreational, and cultural opportunities. In addition to the main campus in Blacksburg, there are two other campuses, the Equine Medical Center, located in Leesburg, Virginia, and the Gudelsky Center, which is located on the campus of the University of Maryland, College Park.

Comprehensive four-year curriculum enables students to integrate knowledge, skills, and professional attributes.

Our comprehensive four-year curriculum enables students to integrate their knowledge, skills, and professional attributes within diverse learning environments, all while focusing on the major areas of veterinary medicine. Students will gain proficiency while learning in the large classroom, small group integrative sessions, the clinical skills center, and laboratories. After two years of preclinical coursework, students will begin their first clinical experience. The clinical teaching time spans two summer semesters, after which students will immerse themselves in higher level coursework within one of five emphasis areas. At the end of this second teaching time, students will complete their extensive veterinary training within the clinical setting.
